Doing Silent and Remote Installations on
Windows
A silent installation is an installation done from the command line. In a text file, you provide all the configuration values that you would normally enter in the Setup GUI. A remote installation is done using Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) tools.
Remote installations can only be performed on a Windows Server. Windows Workstation is not supported by SMS 1.x for this type of installation.
The procedures for both are very similar -- remote installations using SMS include one additional step. The following steps describe the procedure:
- Create a source directory from which to install.
- Edit the installation configuration file.
- Run Setup from the command line.
- If you are doing remote installations using SMS, use the SMS Administrator to create a package and install NerveCenter on remote machines.
Follow the instructions in this chapter to do a silent or remote installation of the following NerveCenter components:

You can install the components on any machine that meets the configuration requirements. (See the Release Notes.) If you integrate NerveCenter with a network management platform, the platform adapter must be installed on the machine that is running the network management platform.
