Removing NerveCenter

If you prefer, you can remove your existing version of NerveCenter before upgrading to NerveCenter v3.7. This step is optional. If you don't want to remove NerveCenter, see .

Caution    If you are unsure whether to uninstall NerveCenter, we recommend that you move all important files to a safe location and uninstall.

If you don't remove the existing version, you may have old files (for example, old documentation PDF files that no longer apply, irrelevant Perl DLLs, reports that are no longer supported, and so on) left over in your NerveCenter directory. Also, you should back up and remove your log files before installing.

The following table lists each NerveCenter component and what happens when you install over an existing version.

  • The Server and any associated utilities (such as Trapper) are replaced with the new versions.
  • On Windows, your existing database is preserved. However, you must upgrade the database before starting the NerveCenter Server. (The NerveCenter database is not backward-compatible. Once you upgrade it, you cannot use it with previous versions.
  • On UNIX, your data files (.ncdb, .node, and .mib files) are preserved and upgraded. The install script also makes a backup copy of your existing database and MIB files and appends "_old" to the file names of the backup copies.
  • Your exported models (MOD files), management information base files (MIBs), ASN.1 files, and mibcomp.txt files are preserved.
  • Your log files are preserved. (You should remove your log files before installing.)
  • Any reports in the BuiltinRPT and CustomRPT subdirectories are preserved. (The database structure changed between NerveCenter 3.0 and NerveCenter 3.6. On Windows, the AlarmDef.rpt, Mask.rpt, Model.rpt, and Poll.rpt reports are no longer supported. However, new downstream alarm suppression models are shipped with NerveCenter, as well as a runtime version of Seagate Crystal Reports 6.0.)
  • Any SMS files (Windows) with the same names are overwritten. Any other files are preserved.
  • Your user groups and users are preserved.
  • Your license key (serial number) is preserved.
