Preparing to Install NerveCenter on Windows

NerveCenter 3.7 over a previous version of NerveCenter

• Export any behavior models that you need to be able to use with previous versions.
• Back up files that you have modified (such as MIB files, or your database).
  Note    If the install script detects existing copies of nervectr.mib, mibcomp.txt, ncexport.asc, nervecenter.ncdb, or, the install script will not overwrite them. It will install 3.7 versions of these files (filename37.ext) that you can use later.

Any NerveCenter component

• Be a Windows NT Administrator. If you are installing on a Windows workstation or server, you must be a member of the local Administrators group (or a member of a group that is a member of the local Administrators group). View the Local Group Properties window for information about the Administrators group. If you are installing on a Windows domain controller, your user ID must be a member of the Domain Admins group.
• Install and start Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) services and SNMP trap services.

The server

Make sure that the machine on which you are installing the server has a fixed address.

The OpenView Platform Adapter

• Make sure the following services are started: SNMP EMANATE Adapter for NT and SNMP EMANATE Master Agent.
• Make sure that the SNMP Trap Service is not started.
• Install and start the HP trap service (ovtrapd).
• Have HP OpenView running on this machine. If HP OpenView is running on a UNIX system, you will need to install the OpenView Platform Adapter on that UNIX system.

The Universal Platform Adapter

Have either Micromuse Netcool/Omnibus (including the NerveCenter probe) or CA Unicenter TNG installed on this machine.

A SQL Server NerveCenter database

• Have an account with system administrator (sa) rights on SQL Server because only sa can create devices.
• Have SQL Server 6.x or 7.x installed and running.
