Connecting to a SQL Database

 
  Follow these instructions to point to a SQL database:

  1. From the Start menu, select DBWizard.

    The Start dialog box displays.

  2. Select Create Data Source and Connection String.
  3. To load predefined or default values, select the Load IDB File button.

    An IDB file contains settings used during this install. If you are re-running DBWizard, you can load an existing IDB file to save time.

    The Open dialog box displays.

    1. Select an IDB file from the NerveCenter Db folder. (If you haven't created one before, select InstallDB.idb. This file contains default settings.)
    2. Select Open to load the file.

      This returns you to the Start dialog box.

  4. Select the Next button.

    The Select Database dialog box displays.

  5. Select Microsoft SQL Server as the database type.
  6. Select the Next button.

    The ODBC Data Source dialog box displays.

  7. Type in an ODBC data source name.
  8. Select the Next button.
  9. The SQL Server Information dialog box displays. Provide the host name, user ID, password, and database name for the SQL database.

  10. Select the Next button.

    The Finish dialog box displays.

  11. To create the ODBC data source and connection string for the database you just specified, check the Create and Execute InstallDB checkbox.

    If you need to repeat this process on different machines, check the Create InstallDB command file with name checkbox and provide a file name in the text box. InstallDB will create another IDB file that saves the settings that you used in this install. You can then load this new IDB file into the InstallDB wizard when you run it on the other machines.

  12. Select the Next button.

    The Events Status dialog box displays. It lists the settings that you have specified.

  13. Verify that all the settings are correct. If necessary, you can use the Back button to return to previous dialog boxes and make corrections.
  14. When everything is correct, select the Finish button.

    The Status Screen dialog box displays with status information.

When the installation is complete, select the OK button to exit DBWizard.
