Review and Summary
The following section includes exercises and questions to help you review what you have learned in this chapter.
Review Exercises
Complete the following exercises using the skills you learned in this chapter:
- Have the Action Router email you if the problem node is not part of the CriticalDevices property group. Some of the actions you will take include:
- Naming the rule
MailTest
- Setting the rule condition so that the node does not equal CriticalDevices
- Adding
SMTP Mail
as a new rule action
- Typing your email address in the
Receiver
text box
Before you can use the SMTP action, someone must have configured NerveCenter to handle email actions correctly. If this has not been done, substitute an alarm action of your choice.
- You want to clearly establish when you are responsible for pages and when your coworker is on call. You've suggested a schedule in which you'll receive pages Sunday through Wednesday, and your coworker will be on call the rest of the week. Modify the rule condition of the PagingTest rule to work within this paging schedule. Some of the actions you will take include:
- Add to the Rule Condition for PagingTest an expression telling Action Router that it is only to perform the paging action Sunday through Wednesday.
Remember to use the right-click and More
button tools. Sunday is considered the first day of the week.
- Create a new rule called WeekendTest that resembles PagingTest except for the days of the week and the pager's phone number.
