Upgrading an Access Database

During a NerveCenter v3.7 installation, if setup detects an existing NerveCenter v3.5 or v3.6 Access database, setup renames the database before copying new files to the directory. Setup also provides a special version of SerializeDB that is compatible with the existing databases. When naming these files, setup appends the string "_35" or "_36" to the file name, depending in which version is being upgraded.

To serialize v3.5/3.6 data after a NerveCenter v3.7 upgrade, you must run SerializeDB_35.exe or SerializeDB_36.exe. (Of course, if you uninstalled the earlier version of NerveCenter before installing NerveCenter v3.7, setup will not detect an existing v3.5/3.6 database and will not create the serialize executable required for this operation.)

Do the following:

  1. Start and select Export database to file.

The executable file is located in the NerveCenter installation/Bin directory.

  2. Select NerveCenter Serialized File (*.asc).
  3. Provide the name you want to give the serialized file. Do one of the following:
  4. Select Start.

The Select Data Source dialog box is displayed.

  5. In the Machine Data Source tab, select New.

The Create New Data Source wizard is displayed.

  6. Follow the prompts to create an Access data source pointing to the NerveCenter database you want to upgrade (NCAccess_35.mdb or NCAccess_36.mdb). Then, select OK.

If SerializeDB cannot export the data successfully, an error message is displayed. Otherwise, your NerveCenter data has been exported to the file you specified.
